On the occasion of Denmark's presidency of the Council of Europe and the 30th anniversary of the Dogma 95 manifesto, Bozar and De Cinema are joining forces to pay tribute to one of the most groundbreaking film movements of recent decades.
In 1995, Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg signed their radical manifesto with a clear statement: film is not an illusion. They turned their backs on fictional scenarios, special effects, slick lighting, studio images, and dramatic soundtracks. Instead, they called for raw, authentic cinema—a return to the essence. Through the “Purity Pledge,” they imposed strict rules on themselves: filming with a handheld camera, using only natural light, real locations, and a focus on pure, emotionally charged performances. Close to the characters, close to the emotion.
