On the occasion of Denmark's presidency of the Council of Europe and the 30th anniversary of the Dogma 95 manifesto, Bozar and **De Cinema** are joining forces to pay tribute to one of the most groundbreaking film movements of recent decades.

In 1995, Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg signed their radical manifesto with a clear statement: film is not an illusion. They turned their backs on fictional scenarios, special effects, slick lighting, studio images, and dramatic soundtracks. Instead, they called for raw, authentic cinema—a return to the essence. Through the “Purity Pledge,” they imposed strict rules on themselves: filming with a handheld camera, using only natural light, real locations, and a focus on pure, emotionally charged performances. Close to the characters, close to the emotion.

À l'occasion de la présidence danoise du Conseil de l'Europe et du trentième anniversaire du manifeste Dogma 95, Bozar et **De Cinema** rendent hommage à l'un des mouvements cinématographiques les plus novateurs de ces dernières décennies.

En 1995, Lars von Trier et Thomas Vinterberg ont signé leur manifeste radical avec une thèse claire : le cinéma n'est pas une illusion. Ils ont tourné le dos aux scénarios fictifs, aux effets spéciaux, à l'éclairage sophistiqué, aux images de studio et aux bandes sonores dramatiques. Au lieu de cela, ils ont appelé à un cinéma brut et authentique, un retour à l'essentiel. À travers le « Serment de pureté », ils se sont imposé des règles strictes : tourner avec une caméra à main, utiliser exclusivement la lumière naturelle, tourner dans des lieux réels et se concentrer sur des performances d'acteurs pures et émotionnellement intenses. Au plus près des personnages, au plus près de l'émotion.

Ter gelegenheid van het Deense voorzitterschap van de Raad van Europa en de dertigste verjaardag van het Dogma 95-manifest brengen Bozar en **De Cinema** samen een eerbetoon aan een van de meest grensverleggende filmbewegingen van de afgelopen decennia.

In 1995 ondertekenden Lars von Trier en Thomas Vinterberg hun radicale manifest met een duidelijke stelling: film is géén illusie. Ze keerden zich af van verzonnen scenario’s, special effects, gelikte belichting, studiobeelden en dramatische soundtracks. In plaats daarvan riepen ze op tot een rauwe, waarachtige cinema – terug naar de essentie. Via de ‘Eed van Zuiverheid’ legden ze zichzelf strikte regels op: draaien met een handcamera, uitsluitend natuurlijk licht, echte locaties, en een focus op pure, emotioneel doorleefde acteerprestaties. Everyone has been invited to the head of the family's 60th birthday party. Family and friends gather at Helge Klingenfelt's manor house. This magnificent masterpiece by the mature Kurosawa is a profound investigation of the folly of war. The film won an Oscar and two BAFTA awards. Shakespeare’s King Lear reinterpreted and filmed as a historical epic in sixteenth-century Japan.

Kurosawa extensively researched the folly of war and the decaying of the family, torn apart by betrayal, greed, and insatiable lust for power. Anno 1985, RAN was the most expensive Japanese film ever made. Its powerful imagery, the intense use of color and the Mahler-inspired soundtrack were further enhanced by the Academy Award-winning costume design.

The sisters recruit director Maria Fredriksson to pursue these unusual circumstances, and the filmmaker is thrust into uncovering secrets and eerie mysteries of a bizarre family story. Fredriksson’s The Gullspång Miracle is a mesmerizing and consistently surprising documentary that epitomizes the ‘stranger than fiction’ narrative. Replete with comically awkward situations and one engrossing revelation after another, the film is a deft exploration of identity and the consequences of stubborn beliefs.
