For 18 years, the AlimenTERRE Belgium international film festival has been raising awareness among citizens about the challenges facing small-scale agriculture and introducing them to possible actions for fairer and more sustainable agricultural and food systems.

Film screenings, meetings and debates, workshops and numerous activities are organised in the presence of specialists from the agricultural sector, directors, farmers' leaders from the South and initiators of concrete and local initiatives.

Depuis 18 ans, le festival international de films AlimenTERRE Belgique sensibilise les citoyen·ne·s aux enjeux de l’agriculture paysanne et leur fait connaître les pistes d’actions vers des systèmes agricoles et alimentaires plus justes et plus durables.

Des projections, des rencontres-débats, des ateliers et de nombreuses animations sont organisés avec la présence de spécialistes du monde agricole, de réalisateur·rice·s, de leader·euse·s paysan·ne·s du Sud et de porteur·euse·s d’initiatives concrètes et locales.

In a dystopian world, we follow the protagonist Giulia as she undergoes a special and unprecedented food re-education programme. But what appears to be a brilliant innovation from the outside actually hides a dark secret. With great creativity and a thrilling atmosphere, the directors manage to address issues such as food and water shortages, plastic pollution and many others.

In modern Latin American history, there is a direct link between the anti-communist repression of the 1970s and the current crackdown on human rights and land rights defenders. Across the continent, with the support of the United States, political opponents of right-wing dictatorships were kidnapped, tortured and murdered under the banner of Operation Condor. Today, economic power in Latin America is held by multinational corporations, particularly in the soy industry. Their enemies are indigenous peoples and landless peasants who claim the right to land and are therefore persecuted and criminalised as terrorists, or killed by hired assassins. Filmmaker Anna Recalde Miranda searches for the roots of this violent conflict. Her journey between past and present is a character-driven exploration that sheds light on the genealogy of the current ecological disaster. Tactics may have changed over the past 50 years, but the structures remain the same: landowners and multinational corporations protect their interests with the help of the police and the army. The shadow of the condor still looms over the Latin American continent.

De la guerre froide à la guerre verte (Green Is the New Red)

Filmed with breathtaking cinematography over four years, Between the Rains explores a childhood trapped in a traditional culture that is falling victim to climate change. As northern Kenya experiences a period of exceptionally low rainfall, the Turkana tribe faces increasingly violent clashes with rival tribes and an invasion of wild predators hunting their livestock. Through Kolei's journey, viewers discover how climate change is affecting every aspect of the Turkana's pastoral life: loss of land, access to water, and conflicts between humans and wildlife.

Once Upon a Time in a Forest unfolds like a modern fairy tale in the enchanting setting of the Finnish forest. Driven by her love of nature, 22-year-old Ida becomes the leader of a new forest movement, taking on the giants of the Finnish forestry industry and generational prejudices. Breathtaking images take viewers to the heart of the forest and the centre of the conflict. The film is a hopeful ode to nature and its protectors.

More than half a million protesters gathered – men and women of all generations, religions, classes and castes – and reinvented coexistence at massive protest sites that sprang up on the outskirts of Delhi. The film invites us to experience the daily textures and indomitable spirit of this historic agricultural movement – until the final victory!

In the heart of the Congolese forest, the remains of the Yangambi INERA research station, dedicated to tropical agriculture, reveal the weight of the colonial past and its links to current climate change. Through the voices of Paul Panda Farnana and Abiron Beirnaert, two scientists who worked at Yangambi between 1910 and 1950, The Tree of Authenticity traces the ecological destruction that began during Belgian colonisation. The film combines personal testimonies and scientific discoveries to explore the legacy of Belgian colonisation and its impact on human lives and the natural world. It is a poignant portrait of lives across different cultures and a warning about what awaits us if we do not change our relationship with the environment.

In 2025, one in ten people in France struggle to put food on the table every day. Food aid has become a common sight. Despite all its humanity, it is overwhelmed by the phenomenon. Faced with this situation, a collective of associations in Montpellier has created a communal food bank. Over the course of a year, the film follows the first steps towards a social security system for food. 400 people contribute according to their means and all receive the same amount to feed themselves healthily. Above all, they are taking back control of their lives. Through four sensitive portraits, the film offers a reflection on the right to food.

The documentary follows Roger Dushime, an enthusiast of African cuisine, in his quest to explore Afro-descendant cuisines in Belgium. Roger meets various figures from the African world to understand the richness of Afro-Belgian identities through cuisine. This film is part of the United Nations Decade for People of African Descent and questions Belgian society's view of African descent.
