On January 29, 2024, Palestinian Red Crescent volunteers receive an emergency call. Hind Rajab, a six-year-old girl, is trapped in a car under Israeli army fire in Gaza. For hours, rescuers desperately try to locate her and send an ambulance, while her terrified voice echoes over the phone.

On reading their mother's will, Jeanne and Simon Marwan are given two envelopes: one for a father they thought dead and the other for a brother they never knew existed. Jeanne sees in this enigmatic bequest the key to her mother's silence, locked in an unexplained silence in the last weeks before her death. She immediately decides to travel to the Middle East to unearth the family's past, about which she knows almost nothing. As for Simon, he has no use for the posthumous whims of a mother who has always been distant. But his love for his twin sister will soon drive him to join Jeanne and travel with her through the land of their ancestors in search of a mother far removed from the one they knew.
