The European Competition is an intriguing mix of liveaction fiction, animation and documentary. Out of more than 3,000 entries, seven programmes remained. The winner of this category immediately makes it to the longlist of the Oscars, the European Film Awards and for British candidates: the BAFTAs. Equally important: viewers also get a vote, thanks to the audience award.

Once upon a time a wise and kind old woman discovers a baby in her cabbage patch. She brings up the child and, when she dies, the boy, Totò, enters an orphanage. Totò leaves the orphanage a happy young man, and looks for work in post-war Milan. He ends up with the homeless and organizes them to build a shanty town in a vacant lot. But when greedy developers threaten the community’s land, Totò will need all the help he can get in order to find an impossible way out.

Taken over by the Grignoux and completely renovated in 2016, the Caméo has 5 screens and a brasserie, the Caféo. Taken over by the Grignoux in 1982, the cinema le Parc is located on the edge of Liège, near Bressoux. It has a magnificent auditorium with over 400 seats.
