It is summer in Budapest when Ábel must focus on his final exams. His love for best friend Janka, however, keeps him from his work. Janka herself is concerned only with her unrequited love for her married history teacher, who in turn is embroiled in a battle with Ábel's conservative father. The tensions of a polarized society become unexpectedly apparent when Ábel's final exam becomes the center of a national scandal.
