In 1938 Algiers, Meursault, a quiet and detached office worker, attends his mother’s funeral without showing any emotion. The next day, he begins an affair with Marie, a coworker, and resumes his routine life. But his existence takes a dramatic turn when he becomes involved in an absurd murder on a beach. His trial becomes a reflection on the absurdity of existence, his emotional detachment, and the colonial society of the time.
