Leonard Shelby only wears designer suits and drives around in his Jaguar. On the other hand, he lives in seedy motels and pays his bills with thick wads of cash. Leonard has only one thing on his mind: to track down the man who raped and murdered his wife in order to exact his revenge. His search for the murderer is made more difficult by the fact that he suffers from a rare and incurable form of amnesia. Although he can remember details of his past, he is unable to know what he has done in the last 15 minutes, where he is, where he is going or why. To ensure that he never loses sight of his goal, he has structured his life with index cards, notes, photos and body tattoos. This is what helps him keep in touch with his mission, retain information and keep track, a sense of space and time.
