The Colonial Film Gaze and Palestinian Counternarratives

A mosaic of tableaux vivants and language games centred on a filmmaker-reflector who, like Godard, asks questions about politics, the art of ancient painters and the aesthetics of cinema.

Passion

Es, a Palestinian living in Jerusalem, is in love with a Palestinian woman from Ramallah. He finds himself torn between his love for her and the need to care for his very frail father. Due to the political situation, the woman cannot travel beyond the checkpoint located between the two cities. Consequently, the couple’s meetings take place in a deserted parking lot near the checkpoint.
