**You’ve been sharing your top 5 films of 2023 for the past two weeks. It’s finally time to share the results with you ! Drums rolls, please !**

**1st place: Anatomie d'une chute**

It's been a while since a Palme d'Or has seen such success ! Directed by Justine Triet ("Victoria"; "La Bataille de Solférino"), Anatomie d'une chute brilliantly explores the drag of a couple in the form of a fascinating trial film. With precise direction, a striking introduction (we're sure you know the chorus of 50 Cent's P.I.M.P, covered by Bacao Rythm & Steel Band, by now) and confirmation of Sandra Hüller's talent, "Anatomie d'une chute" is a hit with our subscribers !

**2nd place: Aftersun**

We heard a lot of (great) things about it when it was in the "Critics' Week" selection at Cannes last year, and the least we can say is that "Aftersun" impressed you/us. The chemistry between Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio, the dusky soundtrack by Oliver Coates and direction by Charlotte Wells broke our hearts to our greatest delight.

**3rd place: The Banshees of Inisherin**

Did you like "In Bruges" ? Great ! For his latest film, Martin McDonagh reunites with his partners in crime Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson in a drama about friendship on an Irish island in the 1920s. The director still managed to switch from the tragic to the comic in the blink of an eye and produced a deceptively simple film that is truly masterful and absolutely unique, combining the best of what he has had to offer since the beginning of his career.

**4th place: Perfect Days**

The director of "Paris, Texas" and "Wings of Desire" has had a stellar year ! Less than a month after releasing a documentary about contemporary German artist Anselm Kiefer, Wim Wenders is back with "Perfect Days," a fiction that follows the daily life of Hirayama, a Japanese man in his 60s who is responsible for maintaining Tokyo's public toilets. Focusing on the details that disrupt his character's routine, Wenders delivers a work that is as gentle as it is melancholy and an ode to simplicity.

**5th place: Oppenheimer**

To say that "Oppenheimer" was a bomb (pardon the pun) is almost an understatement. Christopher Nolan's biopic, the third biggest box-office success worldwide and the sixth most viewed film by our subscribers, managed to captivate the crowds despite its 3-hour running time. A new challenge for Hollywood's most famous English director, who delivers a work as desperate as it is unconventional that will long be remembered.

**6th place: Les Filles d'Olfa**

**1e plaats: Anatomie d’une chute**

Het is al een hele tijd geleden dat een Palme d’Or zo’n succes heeft gekend ! Geregisseerd door Justine Triet (“Victoria”; “La Bataille de Solférino”), Anatomie d’une chute verkent op briljante wijze de sleur van een koppel in de vorm van een fascinerende trial film. Met de precieze regie, de opvallende introductie (we weten zeker dat u het refrein van 50 Cent’s P.I.M.P, gecoverd door Bacao Rythm & Steel Band, inmiddels kent) en de bevestiging van Sandra Hüllers talent is “Anatomie d’une chute” een hit bij onze abonnees !

**2e plaats: Aftersun**

We hoorden er heel wat (positiefs) over toen het vorig jaar in Cannes was in de ‘Critics’ Week’-selectie, en het minste wat we kunnen zeggen is dat “Aftersun” indruk op u/ons heeft gemaakt. De chemie tussen Paul Mescal en Frankie Corio, de schemerige soundtrack van Oliver Coates en regie van Charlotte Wells hebben onze harten gebroken tot onze grote vreugde.

**3e plaats: The Banshees of Inisherin**

Vond u “In Bruges” leuk ? Prima ! Voor zijn nieuwste film herenigt Martin McDonagh zich met zijn partners in crime Colin Farrell en Brendan Gleeson in een drama over vriendschap op een Iers eiland in de jaren 20. De regisseur is er nog steeds in geslaagd om in een oogwenk van het tragische naar het komische over te schakelen en heeft een bedrieglijk eenvoudige film geproduceerd die werkelijk meesterlijk en absoluut uniek is en het beste combineert van wat hij al sinds het begin van zijn carrière te bieden heeft.

**4e plaats: Perfect Days**

De regisseur van “Paris, Texas” en “Wings of Desire” heeft een topjaar achter de rug ! Minder dan een maand na de release van een documentaire over de hedendaagse Duitse kunstenaar Anselm Kiefer, is Wim Wenders terug met “Perfect Days”, een fictie die het dagelijkse leven volgt van Hirayama, een Japanse man van in de zestig die verantwoordelijk is voor het onderhoud van de openbare toiletten in Tokio. Door te focussen op de details die de routine van zijn personage verstoren, levert Wenders een even zachtaardig als melancholisch werk dat een ode is aan de eenvoud.

Het is bijna een understatement om te zeggen dat “Oppenheimer” een bom was (sorry voor de woordspeling). De biopic van Christopher Nolan, wereldwijd het op twee na grootste box-office succes en de op zes na meest bekeken film door onze abonnees, wist de menigte te boeien ondanks de 3 uur durende speelduur. Een nieuwe uitdaging voor Hollywoods beroemdste Engelse regisseur, die een even wanhopig als onconventioneel werk levert dat nog lang herinnerd zal worden.
