On an idyllic farm isolated in the forests of Norway, the Paynes lead a wild, free and self-sufficient life. Maria and Nik home-school their children Ulv, Falk, Freja and Ronja, and strive to live in harmony with nature as a close-knit family. However, a tragic event suddenly puts an end to their idyllic world and forces the family to embark on a new path towards modern society.
