Punta de Rieles, Uruguay. A prison and its barbed wire. Guards and their watchtowers. Prisoners serving their sentences. But a prison of standing men. Or at least recognised as human. Under the impetus of a visionary director - who fought hard to bring this slightly mad project to life - it is they who have done everything and who keep everything running: the grocery shop, the vegetable gardens, the brickworks, the sawmill, the hairdressing salon and the tattoo parlour. Plus the air and the sun. Not paradise, no. But a dignified place.

At Christmas, Billy Peltzer receives a strange creature called a Mogwai, named Gizmo. Three strict rules must be followed: keep it away from light, avoid contact with water, and never feed it after midnight. When these rules are broken, Gizmo spawns a horde of evil Gremlins that wreak havoc on the town.

A Christmas gift turns into a nightmare when the rules are forgotten.

After his mother's disappearance in a fire, eleven-year-old Mahito has to leave Tokyo to live in the countryside, in the village where his mother grew up. He moves in with his father in an old manor house on a huge estate. In the wake of his mother's death and his father's remarriage, a headstrong boy ventures into a dreamlike world shared by the living and the dead in search of his missing stepmother.
