Two contrasting stories of migration to and from the city and countryside are depicted. In the first part of the film, devastating floods cause a farmer named Joana to move to São Paulo. There Joana joins her sister Tania and Tania’s grandson Jamie. As she navigates her new surroundings, Joana struggles to find her place and settle down in working-class São Paulo. In the second part, Flavia’s estranged father dies and she decides to move with her wife Mara from the city to the family farm. There the couple tries to make a new start, but are confronted by nature, old memories, and ghosts from the past.
