Writer Max Brandel ends his career - and his marriage - to become a stand-up comedian. He moves in with his father Stan, a talented but eccentric chef turned doorman. Max doesn't share his ex-wife's approach to raising their son, 9-year-old Ezra, who has Asperger's syndrome. Max decides the solution is to kidnap Ezra and take him on a cross-country trip.
