Hậu lives with her grandchildren in a Vietnamese village, following the rhythm of the surrounding forest. She gathers plants, prepares remedies, and repeats gestures learned and passed down orally. Trương Minh Quý and Nicolas Graux observe her daily life, paying close attention to textures and sounds. Shot on 16 mm film, Hair, Paper, Water... brings to life a world that one might think had disappeared, where knowledge is passed on through repetition and listening. As the film progresses, words appear on the screen: fragments of the Rục language, now endangered, punctuate Hậu's daily life and give rhythm to the viewer's gaze. Through its attention to gestures, dreams and elements, the film paints a portrait of great delicacy. Through this discreet and deeply touching figure, it reveals the persistence of a fragile world that is still alive before our eyes. - Annagrazia Graduato
