A ruined old merchant returns home on a stormy night. Lost in the forest, he finds himself in a mysterious castle. Surprised by the Beast as he picks a rose to give to Belle, the squire condemns him to death, unless one of his daughters agrees to die in his place. To save her father, Belle goes to live in the Beast's castle. There she discovers that appearances can be deceiving...
