On reading their mother's will, Jeanne and Simon Marwan are given two envelopes: one for a father they thought dead and the other for a brother they never knew existed. Jeanne sees in this enigmatic bequest the key to her mother's silence, locked in an unexplained silence in the last weeks before her death. She immediately decides to travel to the Middle East to unearth the family's past, about which she knows almost nothing.
