In Taipei, three couples cross paths and interact in spite of themselves. A photographer and his girlfriend; a delinquent and her accomplice; a novelist and her husband, who works in a hospital. This is Edward Yang's third feature film, and the central part of a sort of trilogy (with Taipei Story dating from 1985, and Mahjong, filmed in 1996) that observes Taiwan's transition to modernity and the effects of this change on individuals.
