Teacher Louise Violet arrives in a village in the French countryside where education is not high on the agenda. At the behest of the Republic, which endorses free, compulsory and secular education, she starts a little school. However, she is not welcomed with open arms by her new fellow villagers. But with perseverance and belief in the importance of her mission, she brings the villagers closer together.
