In 1970 Los Angeles, stoner private investigator Doc Sportello is contacted by his ex-girlfriend Shasta Fay Hepworth, who asks for his help to prevent a plot against her new lover, a billionaire real estate developer. Doc embarks on a labyrinthine investigation filled with eccentric characters, shady dealings, and conspiracy theories, all steeped in a psychedelic and paranoid atmosphere.

Inherent Vice

Commissioned by the U.S. Army, this documentary follows the treatment of soldiers suffering from psychological trauma (then called "psychoneuroses" or "shell shock," now PTSD) in a psychiatric hospital on Long Island. The film depicts therapies (hypnosis, group psychotherapy) and the patients’ progress, as well as the stigma and challenges of their reintegration. Censored for 35 years by the military, it was only released to the public in 1980.

Inspired by nine short stories and a poem by Raymond Carver, "Short Cuts" is a choral fresco exploring the intertwined lives of 22 characters in Los Angeles. Between family dramas, infidelities, accidents, and moments of grace, the film captures humanity in all its complexity, blending dark humor, tragedy, and poetry. The fates cross, influence, and echo each other, all against a backdrop of social tension and everyday coincidences.

On a sweltering summer day in Tokyo, young detective Murakami has his pistol stolen on a crowded bus. Desperate to recover it, he teams up with veteran detective Sato. The film blends suspense, social critique, and a meditation on guilt and redemption in post-war Japan.

The film explores power dynamics, manipulation, and the search for redemption.

Fred C. Dobbs and Bob Curtin, both down on their luck in Tampico, Mexico in 1925, meet up with a grizzled prospector named Howard and decide to join with him in search of gold in the wilds of central Mexico. Through enormous difficulties, they eventually succeed in finding gold, but bandits, the elements, and most especially greed threaten to turn their success into disaster. 

Two down-on-their-luck Americans searching for work in 1920s Mexico convince an old prospector to help them mine for gold in the Sierra Madre Mountains.
